Flash BIOS?
And one more question in case anyone is checking this board -- I'm trying to flash BIOS since the website says the newer version will fix Athlon XP errors.
However, when booting off the A:/ drive and running the .exe file, my system hangs after the "update files?" message displays. I've already made sure the "protect BIOS" setting is disabled before trying to flash.
Any ideas?
What should the clock speed be?
I just put the Athlon XP 2600+ AXDA2600DKV3C in my PCCHIPS M811LU mb, and diagnostics show it's only running at 1.67ghz. Not the speed increase I was needing over the 1800+ I had in there.
I've already got the FSB and memory running at 133mhz, any ideas for boosting the speed to at least the 2ghz level?
The only way I was able to flash the bios
was to use the ECS K7VTA3 (6.0b) bios update.
It flashed the bios, and fixed a BootBlock ROM bios issue. Rebooted the computer and I got an error CMOS checksum error (defaults loaded), but was able to enter the bios, reset the date and time, and the mobo has booted up flawlessly ever since. The M811811.bin wouldn't work.
Download uniflash.exe then create a new awdflash.exe file in notepad then put all three files onto a W98SE bootdisk. Type uniflash, and the .bin file, and it flashes.
The awdflash.exe file should say:
AWDFLASH.ASM
; I compiled it using TASM 6.0

2800+ in PCCHIPS M811
Don't try it! Some boards using AMD Athlon XP processors are very sensitive to putting the wrong type of processor in them. Better to use the max recommended processor in the M811.I speak from experience with M811.THE BOARD WILL BURN OUT!
would AMD XP 2800 work on this motherboard
i saw on the PC CHIPS webpage as AMD XP2600 as being the max
would it still work and go backwards to AMD XP 2600 OR would my chips AMD XP 2800 not work at all
AMD XP 2800 SOCKET A
what would happen if i put this chip on this board?
the highest supported cpu on the list was AMD XP2600
i did not see AMD XP2800 on this website and the PC CHIPS website as supported but would it still come on and go backwards to AMD xp 2600 OR would the chips and motherboard not work at all?
