P5GC-MX/1333 & Q9400

2009-12-06 23:09:14
Posted by: Ulrich

Dear G..

We recently had a poster on our Asus Forun relating that someone named 'Sonny', whom he spoke to by phone, apparently connected to the cpu-upgrade web site, had told him that the Asus P5GC-MX/1333 supported the Intel Q9400 procssor. This is inaccurate.. there is no support for the Q9400 processor and using it voids both the processor and the mainboard warrantee.

I don't know if you have any direct connection with the information on the cpu-upgrade site, but if you do, it might be worthwhile to add a disclaimer that although a particular processor can be made to work, unless there is a supporting BIOS, then the processor is not supported and using an unsupported processor voids warrantees.

Best Regards

Intel 945G does not support quad core

2009-12-08 09:41:40
Posted by: tcsenter

There are NO motherboards based on Intel 945 that can support 45nm quad core. There were only a rare few Intel 945 boards (out of several dozen) that could support 65nm quad core (only three that I'm aware of). Nearly all 945 boards needed a VRM rework/revision just to support 45nm dual core. Due to a chipset limitation, reliably supporting quad core is not feasible and most motherboard manufacturers never bothered trying.

P5GC-MX and Q9400 are not compatible

Intel Pentium-Dual Core E5800

Does this board support Intel Pentium-Dual Core E5800 3.2Ghz? Actually its not listed on ASUS Website but I read from ASUS forum that it might support and I've came across a guy on You Tube who used 5800 on this board and was able to overclocked it to 3.9Ghz but still I'm in doubt since it's not listed on ASUS site. Can anyone enlighten me please???:)

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.2GHz

Hi. I have Asus P5GC-MX/1333 motherboard and a Intel Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.2GHz stock! I know this CPU is not supported on this motherboard. So please can anyone tell me that I'm running on 3.2GHz? My FSB stock speed is 800. So when i go to bios i can see from manual overclocking that FSB speed is set to 200. Is that right or no? I can see at CPU-Z that Core Speed is on 1.2GHz! So i'm worried if i'm running on right speed!
If i am not running on right speed please guide me to the exact speed!
PS: Sorry for my English!

800Mhz Intel chip, it uses the 200Mhz DDR memory, but basically accesses it 4 times during the clockcycle, what they call "quad pumped", for a total of 800Mhz. and your fsb is the same as your memory it just quad pumped to equal 800mhz

Max upgrade?

What is the best processor for this motherboard? I have updated the BIOS to the latest, 0413, but how do you tell which is the fastest?

But reading the list above it clearly states
"According to the latest information from ASUS, Quad-core processors are not supported."
Does this mean it does work but Asus dont accept responsibility if something goes wrong, or maybe the havent tested it themselves?

At one point of time ASUS listed them as supported, which is why they are listed here. Since then ASUS removed quad-cores from their CPU support list. Additionally, a moderator from their forum contacted me and asked to correct the page. So, officially Quad-cores are not supported.

your correct asus changed the list because the the core 2 quads use more power then what the board can handle and thus a Core 2 Duo with higher clock will be the fastest and in most cases will be faster then the core 2 quads anyways but technically the core 2 quads do work but not with the lastest bios and would have to be under clocked or undervolted to work in this board with out causing an issue
