HP CPU Upgrade on ASUS M2N68-LA (Narra3-GL8E)

Upgraded from original CPU (AMD Phenom x4 9150e Quad-Core, 65W TDP)on this board to an AMD Phenom II x4 945 Quad-Core (95W TDP) in Vista SP2 running an HP Pavilion a6655f. No problem with the upgrade - smooth.

Same problem with the "AMD processor model unknown". Bios v5.14 Phoenix Technologies sees it but doesn't recognize it. Same with Vista. CPU-Z recognizes the Name (AMD Phenom II x4 945) and all else, but not the Specification (AMD processor model unknown).

Running the processor hard does pull on the 3GhZ speed, though, and the multipliers adjust when it does. Stock HSF seems to be doing okay.

I havn't found any Bios update for this board from any source I trust.

Next step - new build.

But, if you stick with the unit you have, you can buy a heavy duty processor from someone like Newegg or Microcenter, get a free or cheap mobo that supports it and some ddr3 RAM. With the CPU you already have, you could get away with just getting a decent mobo and the RAM.

Would this processor work on this motherboard? I know it's AM3, but from what I read those will work in AM2+ sockets.

There was a confirmation that the AMD Phenom II X4 840 works on the Narra3-GL8E Motherboard, but I was wondering if the AMD Phenom II X4 850 will work on this motherboard as well?

AMD Phenom II X4 B93(830)

I put B93 to this mobo and it fully worked first time(checked with CPUID & CPU-Z).

However, Bus speed suddenly reduced from 200 MHZ to 57.5 MHZ and consequently core speed changed from 2.8 G to 800 MHZ. CPUID still identifies my CPU as 2.8 GHZ one(maybe preset by modo?) but CPU-Z shows currently functioning clock in real.

Anyone knows why?

I installed a AMD Phenom II X6 1045T AM3 Processor in this Narra3-GL8E motherboard and it would not post. My bios version is 5.10. At this current time I could not find any legitimate bios upgrade through HP. I also looked for alternative upgrades for the bios I could not find any.

Narra3-GL8E v 3.02 The bios file does not work on my computer I tried flashing in vista 32bit I now have a Amd x4 945 95w that I cant use until I get the bios updated

oh ok

it makes me wonder if the bios i posted will work with your board i did a few google searchs it seem that all the m2n68-la board look the same other then the revision and the color being different i wonder if you could actually use that bios with your board and im sure why hp does it but there new bios force you to have to flash with vista you can sometimes get around that by extracting the bios file with a program such as 7zip if you run into the unsupported os issue so if you end up finding the bios for your board try extracting it with 7zip inside should be a winflash file you can then use to update bios normally

HP dx2450 - Guidance re: upgrading Athlon X2 5400B

I have a HP business computer model dx2450.
It's running Win7 Pro 64bit with 4GB RAM.

I previously upgraded graphics (NVidia GeForce GT 610) and now would like to upgrade the original CPU (Athlon dual core 5400B).

I looked inside & the motherboard is definitely M2N68-LA.
On bootup and per CPU-Z, the BIOS is Phoenix 5.63 dated 6/1/2000.

HP tech support said it's possible to upgrade to Phenom Quadcore. The fastest HP listed were the Phenom II X4 models 810 and 925.

I gather from other posts here that newer faster Phenom quadcores may also work for me, and I'd welcome any guidance on safe bets that are good values. I have never overclocked before but might entertain that too.

Thanks very much!

at the most an Phenom II X4 945 or 955 95W will be about the highest cpu that board can take the cpu needs to be 95w so if your looking for a cpu make sure it is 95w because the 125w versions wont work
